Steady decline of Bengali Hindus

Image
"Freedom is not absolute, if you don't defend it, you lose it. If you give in to the threat of violence, there won't be less violence, there will be more." – indeed a fine speech depicting the cruel reality and it was said by Salman Rushdie   at the concluding dinner at the two-day India Today Conclave at the Taj Palace Hotel held in 2012. No sane individual across the globe, learned enough as regards the changes of history and ups and downs (portraying the developments one has got to through for ever and a day), can ever deny its authenticity. No victor or even loser can also rebuff this genesis of struggle. Nevertheless, Hindus prove to be defiant (in this case at least)! Hindus, especially Bengali Hindus, being confounded and suppressed by many factors ranging from the weird saga of secularism to Islamic fundamentalism, remain candid enough to deny the same. Why? Here is the answer – Bengali Hindus have never learnt from history, they do not have the basic...

Maulana Barkati’s stint as political mentor to seculars kicks off in Bengal

Image
When political parties and their leaders are joining the bandwagon to assuage Muslims in Bengal, how can the Shahi Imam of Tipu Sultan Mosque in Kolkata be far behind? The long wait has come to an end at last and Maulana Nurur Rahman Barkati, pro-Trinamool Shahi   Imam   of the Tipu Sultan Masjid or famous more as mentor of Bengal’s Chief Minister these days, has broken his silence. He has asked Mamata Banerjee to step up opposition against Narendra Modi and dash his dream to become Prime Minister of India to the ground. The aspiration is grievous enough to dismantle the entire country or ravish the country’s secular image across the globe, as per him. How can this be done? In this case, he has suggested her to abide by the straight-from-the-shoulder talking style of Rahul Gandhi who barely misses a chance to pick Narendra Modi and his cohorts, termed as harbinger of an ideology of hate or Maut Ka Saudagar already. While to taking to press recently, the Shahi Imam made hi...

Unbridled lust for Muslim votes aggravating political culture in Bengal

Image
Political parties in Bengal are having the compulsion to garner Muslim votes come what may and this irresistible urge is changing political equations in the state unknown hitherto fast. Contrary to the beliefs of many, even if Rezzaq Mollah has been banished from CPIM, party’s leaders are inclined to retain a steady relationship to him and this has, once again, exposed the political opportunism of CPIM. It’s true, in the journey from its inception in 1964, CPIM has banished several leaders, due to ideological schisms, even causing danger to its own existence in the Indian political arena. Whether it was the Naxalite leaders in the late 1960s to august Nripen Chakraborty in 1995 and the latest in this category are Saifuddin Chowdhury and Samir Patitunda in 2001, CPIM had never expressed any disposition to readmit them into the party. Somnath Chatterjee, colossus of the party once but expelled in 2008, shares the same fate. But all these come to an end with Rezzaq Mollah. The party f...

Hindu persecution on the rise in Indian Subcontinent

This is the story of Mila Bakta (age 8), a school student of Class II at Mandra Government Primary School and also daughter of Mr. Milan Bakta or a minority Hindu individual living in the village of Mandra within the jurisdiction of the police station of Kotalipara in the district of Gopalgunj amid Bangladesh. The innocent girl became victim of a brutal rape perpetrated by Sohag Sheikh (age 20), son of Sekandar Ali Shiekh inhabiting the same village, on February 27. It has come to knowledge that Sohag Sheikh used to harass the girl for months and on the fateful day at 3.45 pm, Mila Bakta was tempted by the felon through a biscuit. Sohag promised her more biscuits only if she listened to him. When she agreed, Mila was taken to a residence and was raped brutally. Nevertheless, it must also be pointed out that it was not similar to any ordinary rape. On the word of her father, Mila’s face was anointed by the semen of Sohag Sheikh and as per investigators, it was nothing else save for th...

Cattle, gold smuggling endanger security of Bengal, India

Image
Smuggling best profit to Jihadi network in Bangladesh Cattle smuggling through the India-Bangladesh international border (largely porous at the same instant) and its minatory consequences on Bengal has failed to earn any sincerity in the mainstream media and by now, the issue is affecting both the state and the rest of East India as well. What was merely an illegal trade a decade back has turned to an empire whose partakers conduct it with confidence and are also known to flex muscles and also slay throats of protestors in need. If truth be told, villages in the Indian side across the border are its worst victims and albeit, the menace is rising still the governance remains apathetic. At times, few smugglers are arrested but are released soon thanks to lack of proof and locals term this as a mundane endeavor by both police and BSF to earn larger share from smugglers. The detention and release of Abdul Barik Biswas on bail, known to have a property worth 100 crore based on this ...

Wild Hindu-Muslim conflict shock Mandirbazar, South 24 Paraganas

Islamist youth arrested with bombs in Nimpith With each day it passes, communal conflagration is rising across Bengal and it is getting apparent, if the police fails to rein in South 24 Paraganas, violent clashes on the rise here may dismantle the entire governance. Such riotousness was witnessed on March 16 at 4.30 pm in the village of Sharifnagar under the jurisdiction of the police station of Mandirbazar in the district of South 24 Paraganas when almost 400 Islamists assailed the residence of Shymaprasad Pramanik. The house of Shymaprasad Pramanik is at Chotopol (just behind the village’s crossway) and he has been living there for more than four decades at a stretch. He is known for his virtuousness in the locality and started living here when the same crossway was covered with bulrushes almost. With the passage of decades, lots have changed and this includes demography of the village as well. In the last few years, a great number of Muslims have turned up leaving Shymaprasad ...

No communal clashes but Onslaughts on Hindus have surged in Bengal

Image
However late it is, people are discerning the worsening communal situation in Bengal fast and at the moment, this happens to be the only silver lining.  And this mood is being found everywhere whether it is in online social networking services or comment sections underneath any online news or even in marketplaces. At the same time, it is also true that issues pondered by these observers are nothing but tip of the iceberg whereas the malice is already deep-rooted. Press and electronic media in Bengal unlike Bangladesh prefer to skip the precarious subject and this vacuum leads to misgivings only. If government’s records are studied painstakingly, there are enough reasons to get worried. According to records, while the number of communal clashes were limited between 12 and 40 for five years at a stretch till 2012, it surged to 106 in 2013 and in the majority of cases, if not more, Hindus have been caught unaware and tortured. Not a single district is in the state where such bal...
